I came to directing through two obsessions: theatre and psychology. Having a deep interest in these topics as a child, I decided to formally study both in college - evening out my BFA with a minor in psychology. And what I found is that, at their root, they ask the same question: What does it mean to be human?
As a director, I bring that psychological lens to every room I enter. I enjoy integrating the inner architecture of characters, the invisible dynamics between people on stage, and constantly questioning and experimenting with how a story can allow an audience to understand a mind unlike their own. At the root of my directing is a love of the mind and a love of people.
So whether it’s discovering the undercurrents of a new work or bringing classics to the modern age, I thrive as a director telling stories that feel like psychological studies. Utilizing my strong background in movement and classical theatre, these psychological studies of mine become fully embodied and fully staged.
